  1. Idiot Karen got her boyfriend beat up. At least this one got some of the smack-down as well – as she should have.

These privileged white people have lived in a bubble all their lives. They really can’t imagine that there might be negative real-world consequences to their actions. I think that’s part of why they feel so free to riot on behalf of black folks, most of whom apparently want nothing to do with them.

Do you think the coffee-throwing bimbo learned a lesson?

  2. I just recovered from the worst case of bronchitis I’ve ever had, and I’ve had many. It was so bad that one morning I had the sensation of drowning, which terrified me so much that I went to an urgent care place to get checked out. Chest X-rays showed it to be bronchitis (the first time in my 66 years that bronchial congestion showed up on X-rays), and a blood test showed it to be non-bacterial. They gave me prednisone, an antibiotic, an albuteral inhaler, and a Covid-19 test. Within 6 hours, I was on the mend.

The Covid-19 test came back negative.

I’m prone to bronchitis, and have had many bouts in my life. None even approached this one in severity. This one was diagnosed as due to “a non-specific virus.” Well, now…my wife and I have been masked and social-distanced through this entire pandemic period. But some “non-specific virus” was nevertheless able to give me the worst case of bronchitis I’ve ever had (I really thought I was going to die). If a regular virus could get past these measures, what hope is there when it comes to the super-duper infectious Chinese Wuhan Red Death?

Frankly, I think the severity of this particular bronchitis was due to wearing a mask, thereby concentrating viruses in my nose and mouth instead of shedding them.

BTW, I was puzzled about the antibiotic, since we knew it wasn’t a bacterial infection. I looked it up,. and saw that it was one used to treat not only a wide variety of bacterial infections, but also to prevent malaria (which is a parasite, not a bacterium). That was a real tip. Further research shows that it performs, in combination with zinc, all of the same functions as hydroxychloroquine, with none of the (rare) side effects. I found a couple of papers on-line proposing use against Covid-19. Evidently, doctors have gotten smart about prescribing things off-label for Covid-19. They must have a grapevine that’s hidden from the CDC and FDA, because there is no reference to this drug in the popular press. I don’t know if it was responsible for my astonishingly fast recovery (or if the prednisone just relieved the horrible inflammation in my lungs), but it has shown anti-viral effectiveness against even Ebola – so I wouldn’t be surprised.

(I am reluctant to name the drug for fear of it being jerked from the off-label list.)

    1. Despite mask, gloves, and distancing, I’ve caught this same number of random viruses as always, and have one now (wet, stuffy nose, mild wet cough, sore throat, headache, and lessened sense of taste coupled to weird imaginary smell [just now a whiff of scetone]).

  3. The Mask Nazi are 1000 times worse than people who don’t want to wear a mask. Democrats have cultivated the obligation to use violence against people they disagree with and it is long past time for it to stop.

I don’t know why anyone thinks we should make the party of the KKK and Jim Crow the arbiters of race or the party of eugenics, anti-vaxing, and chemophobia the arbiters of science.

    1. I think related: dealing with the KKK is the reason behind so many of the laws we have restricting masks in public. If the donkeys can make is socially unacceptable to not wear a mask in public, advantage to the modern successors of the KKK.

  4. Social Media has made too many people too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the mouth for it.

  5. I’ve been noticing the deterioration in respect on construction sites for several years. People routinely do and say things now that would have been painful a few decades back. It’s not so much getting a butt whipping that controls the poor behavior as the knowledge that one is waiting at the other end of stupidity that seemed to make for a more respectful construction site.

I see the same thing operating here. No consequences=no responsibility.

  6. The couple could have left them alone. The two men had food and were trying to find a place to eat in peace. Maybe edible masks would make Ken and Karen happy?

  7. Where I live we have 2 options supported by the local government:

    6 feet apart

    or

    mask

Of course you’re free to do both.

That sort of rule set quiets a lot of busybodies.

    1. I’m in Banff, Alberta for a couple of days. Picturesque tourist town in the mountains, suffering from the coronavirus lockdown. Lots of people here, the folks in Calgary need an outlet so have made up some of the shortfall in international tourism.

The town has posted signs all over downtown that you must wear a mask outdoors in the public areas AND still maintain 2m spacing. Nobody seems to be keen on doing both so the average person understands at some level that this is just silly.

  8. Mrs. McG and I have wildly different comfort zones, temperature-wise, which means sometimes I’m uncomfortably cold indoors during the summer. So I’d been idly considering getting a neck gaiter or something to wrap around my neck during those times.

The mask mania finally gave me the impetus, so now when I go on errands I have a bandana-print gaiter around my neck that I can pull up over my face when I go into a store.

I swore I wouldn’t let myself get in that habit, but the other day I came out of a store “masked” up and a young couple on the way in saw me and stopped to ask me if masks were required.

It could have been an excellent chance to go mask Nazi, if I’d been so inclined. Instead I told them they were fine — even some of the employees weren’t wearing them.
