  1. That does sound good. I’ve watched a documentary on Sutton Hoo, plus it often gets brought up on “Digging For Britain” with Dr. Alice Roberts, one of the cutest hosts of any archeological show.

Britain has had amazing digs going on for a very long time, and I’m wondering when modern archeologists are going to start digging up the graves of previous British archeologists to see what kind of grave goods archeologists are typically buried with.

  2. The Mrs. and I enjoyed it, and yeah the love story… I guess if you’ve got Lily James there is a natural tendency to shoehorn something like that in.

A question: Excluding the Ralph Fiennes character I probably got maybe 70% of the dialog (Fiennes was much higher, maybe 95%). I do see Carey Mulligan is a Brit, and don’t get me wrong I thought the cast was very good (Ken Stott as the head of the British Museum was excellent), but am I an outlier? What percentage of the native American English speaking public has that much trouble with that strain of British spoken English? The Mrs. did better that I did, probably the hours spent at Downton Abbey.

    1. Kat and I enjoyed it, as well. Fortunately, we had subtitles in American enabled, so I didn’t miss any dialog.

I was a little disappointed that they never took that boat out for a spin…

  3. My daughter recently completed her Masters degree in history from the State University of new York. She and I both enjoyed this presentation, but she noted that the character of Peggy was grossly misrepresented in this movie. She noted that by the time Peggy had become involved in this particular project, she already had two or three major excavations to her credit. She and I also agreed that the love story in the movie was completely unnecessary, but likely is almost a required component of a lot that comes out of Hollywood these days
