Fauxcahontas’s Wealth Tax

Thoughts from Tom Maguire.

It seems unconstitutional to me on its face. We had to amend the Constitution to get an income tax, and I’m pretty confident that it would be required here as well. Anyway, as Jim Bennett noted on Facebook, we should reserve comment until we can properly understand the proposal by reading it in the original Cherokee.

Want to soak the rich and help poor people? Tax fringe benefits. Yes, this would help a lot with decoupling health insurance from employment, which is how the mess got started.

Venezuela

What’s at stake:

So God was Venezuelan. But the ruling class became corrupt, and wrecked the place. This was part of a disappointing global pattern, as many social democrats, many of whom had been active in the late Cold War fight against Communism, were corrupted, both in Latin America and Europe. The list of such leaders includes Nicaragua’s Carlos Andres Perez and European socialist anti-Communists such as Mario Soares (Portugal), Felipe Gonzalez (Spain), and Bettino Craxi (Italy), as well as Czech followers of Vaclav Havel.

Most of those countries have long since voted out the corrupt governments with which they were afflicted, but Venezuelans were not so fortunate. Not only was the economy ruined, but their rulers joined the ranks of a world-wide alliance aimed against the United States, Israel, and the West European democracies. Just look at the global lineup for and against Maduro today, and you can see it, just as General Mike Flynn and I wrote in our best-seller, The Field of Fight. Here is Maduro’s team: Cuba, Turkey, Russia, Iran, China, Nicaragua, and Hezbollah, Iran’s terror proxy. One will get you ten that North Korea is in there too.

That is the correct way to look at the turmoil in Venezuela. It isn’t just an internal affair; it’s part of a world war. You have surely noticed the reports of aircraft arriving in Caracas from Russia and other friendly countries. And you can bet that the Iranians and Russians are telling Maduro how to cope. You know what they’re saying: kill the ringleaders and arrest everyone else.

Yes, the war against communism never really ended with the fall of the wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union. It just took on a new form. And now much (more) of the Democrat Party are on the other side.

Mark Steyn: The drumbeat of the mob.

[Update a few minutes later]

Robby Soave has viewed all of the video, and discovered who the real (ignorant) racist is:

The Native American man says, “Go back to Europe where you came from. This is not your land, you have been here two, three generations compared to us. We’ve been here a million fucking years.” The MAGA teen responds, “That’s not true. Let’s go all the way back to Africa,” and proceeds to tell the story of the land bridge that once connected Asia to North America, which allowed humans to settle these lands some thousands of years ago. (His opponent counters that this a “bullshit theory.”)

Keep in mind, the teen saying that all human beings originally came from Africa is a member of the group of young people initially described by countless pundits as obviously, undeniably racist.

Leftists have to have had their sense of irony excised at birth.

[Wednesday-morning update]

The 48-hour rule. Maybe it should be 72.

[Update a while later]

What’s happening to those kids is vile.

It is. I was just listening to Glenn Beck on the way back dropping Patricia off at the bus stop. He was playing the audio of the horrific things that the “black Israelites” (or whatever the hell those monsters are) were saying about killing white people and raping women and making them their concubines, that no one in the media seems to think is a big deal. He made the point that Social Justice Warriors don’t give a damn about justice. They’re Social Vengeance Warriors.

Lawyer for Covington Catholic gives the media a 48-hour ultimatum.

And “Dear Covington boys: Everyone failed you.” Well, not everyone, but most.

Plus, Ross Douthat debates Ross Douthat.

Toxic Anti-Masculinity

Thoughts on the need for both masculinity and femininity from a (female) psychotherapist.

And Kurt Schlichter writes that we need to retoxify it.

[Update a while later]

Heh. Least masculine society in human history is concerned about “toxic masculinity.”

And this will be fun: Harvard could be sued under Title IX for calling traditional masculinity “harmful.”

Gillette

Thoughts on their attempt to get woke, go broke:

Gillette has learned that in [current year], it’s not enough for a company to make a product that people want. It’s not enough to make them feel inadequate about themselves, and then sell them the supposed cure for that inadequacy. Consumers, men in particular, must be made to feel worthless. They have to be reminded that their needs and desires are wrong under any circumstances, that their instincts are loathsome, that their very existence is a malignancy, and that they’re responsible for all the world’s ills whether they want to admit it or not.

Now give them your money, you piece of garbage.

There are a lot of alternatives.

Wow, they’ve even turned Piers Morgan into a men-rights activist.

The toxic mission to re-engineer men.

[Late-morning update]

More thoughts from Lileks:

The first half of the ad is stupid – all these guys staring in the mirror, wondering “Am I a straw man who actually laughed at that ‘Married with Children’ episode in 1999?” The clueless, fatal association of grilling with indifferent lunkhead men, the sort of detail that could only come from men who write long essays for Medium about how they feel alienated from grilling and always get nervous sweat when they have to go to a backyard party, because there are like, these dudes, standing over the fire? And it’s so, like, primal? god none of these people ever listen to Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me you can just tell but I guess I can stand here and joke while I drink this beer because airquotes it’s what guys do airquotes

Here’s the thing, though. I am not completely outraged. Take care of your kids, set a good example, don’t catcall – sure. Yes. Men who do these things will surely agree. Men who do not are unlikely to be moved to behave otherwise. But men who do these things already will not find the commercial supportive; they’re more likely to be irritated that someone presumes they have to be told these things.

Yes.
